1969-10-12 USSR Soyuz 7

Soyuz 7 launched from Baikonur on October 12, 1969, one day after Soyuz 6, with Anatoly Filipchenko, Vladislav Volkov, and Viktor Gorbatko aboard. Its primary role was to participate in the three-spacecraft group flight and to conduct a rendezvous and planned docking with Soyuz 8, with the possibility of transferring cosmonauts between the two spacecraft.

Soyuz 7 successfully maneuvered toward Soyuz 8, approaching to approximately 460 meters, but the spacecraft could not complete the planned docking because of problems with the rendezvous and docking system. Despite this setback, the mission demonstrated coordinated operations between multiple crewed spacecraft and included scientific, technical, and Earth-observation experiments. Soyuz 7 landed in Kazakhstan on October 17, 1969, after approximately 4 days, 22 hours, and 40 minutes in orbit.
