1969-01-26 USA Apollo Mobile Quarantine Facility Experimental Deployment

An Apollo 11 Mobile Quarantine Facility deployment cover, postmarked aboard USS Myles C. Fox with a hand cancel on January 26, 1969.
The cover commemorates the ten-day experimental deployment of the Apollo 11 Mobile Quarantine Facility aboard USS Myles C. Fox during sea trials from Norfolk, Virginia. The facility was a converted Airstream trailer designed by NASA to quarantine astronauts returning from Apollo lunar missions for 21 days. Its purpose was to prevent the possible spread of lunar microorganisms or other unknown contaminants, although the existence of such hazards was considered unlikely.
(Note the cover printed "Apollo 10", which should be "Apollo 11").
