Gemini 2 was originally scheduled for launch on December 9, 1964. As the countdown reached zero, the stage one engines ignited, but the Malfunction Detection System detected a problem due to a loss of hydraulic pressure. This led to an automatic shutdown of the engines approximately one second after ignition.
