The Space Race was a technological competition between the United States and the Soviet Union in demonstrating superiority in aerospace capabilities, including artificial satellites launches, robotic space probes to the Moon, Venus, and Mars, and human spaceflight in low Earth orbit and ultimately landing on the Moon. 1962-10-12 USA Test Flight 6 of Titan II
Although the Titan II Missile N-9, launched on October 12, 1962, was successful, the persistent pogo oscillation issue meant it could not be deemed man-rated. The cover is postmarked at Cape Canaveral on October 12, 1962.
